Glossary.

Our terminology, explained.

With how fast things move today, it’s not always easy to keep up with every term and acronym. This short list is here to help create clarity and make communication easier for everyone.

API

Connect systems. Share data. Act smarter.

An API (Application Programming Interface) allows different software systems to communicate and exchange data in a structured, secure way.

APIs connect building systems like BMS, sensors, meters, and external data sources, so information flows instead of staying siloed.

Climify makes all building data available through standardized, documented APIs. This enables secure integration with third-party systems, portfolio tools, and external data — openly, without lock-in.

BACnet

An open language for building systems.

BACnet (Building Automation and Control Network) is a widely used communication protocol in building automation.

It allows systems from different manufacturers to communicate and exchange data in a standardized, interoperable way.

BACnet enables building systems like heating, ventilation, cooling, lighting, and meters to work together more efficiently.

Climify can integrate with BACnet-based systems to access operational data, support advanced analytics and control strategies, and improve energy performance and comfort — without vendor lock-in.

BIM

From building plans to operations.

BIM (Building Information Modeling) is a digital representation of a building’s physical and functional characteristics. It brings geometry, systems, and metadata together in one shared model.

BIM data can help simplify large-scale deployments by providing structured information about spaces and systems.

Climify can use BIM data to support sensor planning and registration, enabling more efficient rollout and consistent setup across buildings — when needed.

Cloud Platform

One place. Many buildings.

A cloud platform is a digital environment where data from multiple systems and locations can be securely collected, processed, and accessed.

Allowing information to be available beyond a single building or local system, cloud platforms enables portfolio-level insight, comparison, and collaboration.

Climify uses a cloud platform to bring building data together, support monitoring and analysis, and enable continuous improvement across buildings — securely and at scale.

CO₂ Concentration

A signal of indoor air quality.

CO₂ concentration measures the amount of carbon dioxide in indoor air. It is commonly used as an indicator of ventilation effectiveness and occupancy in buildings. High CO₂ levels can signal insufficient fresh air and reduced comfort or performance.

Climify monitors CO₂ concentration to support healthy indoor environments and inform better ventilation and operational decisions — grounded in real use of spaces.

CO₂ Emissions

Making impact visible.

CO₂ emissions describe the amount of carbon dioxide released through energy use and building operation. In buildings, emissions are mainly driven by heating, cooling, ventilation, electricity use, and the energy source behind them.

Understanding CO₂ emissions helps link daily operation to climate impact.

Climify makes emissions visible by translating energy data into CO₂ metrics, supporting better decisions, continuous improvement, and progress tracking over time.

CRREM

Aligning buildings with climate targets.

CRREM (Carbon Risk Real Estate Monitor) is a framework that helps assess whether a building’s carbon emissions pathway is aligned with the Paris Agreement. It defines science-based decarbonisation trajectories for real estate assets over time.

CRREM helps owners understand transition risk and long-term compliance at asset and portfolio level.

Climify can support CRREM-aligned analysis by providing transparent energy, emissions, and performance data — helping track progress and identify operational improvements.

Dashboard

See what matters.

A dashboard is a visual interface that brings key data and indicators together in one place.

Dashboards help users quickly understand what is happening without digging into raw data, turning complex information into actionable insight.

Climify dashboards present energy, indoor climate, system performance, metadata, and user feedback in a clear, role-based way — supporting confident decisions in daily operation.

Digital Twin

A practical model of how a building works.

A Digital Twin is a digital representation of a real building used to understand, analyze, and improve its performance.

It can combine structural information with historical and live operational data, depending on the use case.

Climify creates operational digital twins of buildings based on available structure, system context, and measured data.

These digital twins support analysis, simulation, and continuous improvement — focused on how buildings actually perform in daily operation.

M-Bus

Standardized access to meter data.

M-Bus (Meter-Bus) is a communication protocol designed for reading consumption data from utility meters. It is widely used for heating, water, gas, and electricity meters in buildings.

M-Bus enables reliable, structured access to consumption data across large building portfolios.

Climify can integrate with M-Bus-based systems to use meter data for monitoring, benchmarking, and performance analysis — openly and without vendor lock-in.

Modbus

Simple. Reliable. Widely used.

Modbus is a communication protocol commonly used in building and energy systems to exchange data between devices.

Modbus enables access to data such as energy use, temperatures, and system status from technical equipment.

Climify can integrate with Modbus-based systems to collect and use this data for monitoring, analysis, and performance improvement — without vendor lock-in.

DGNB

Certifying sustainable buildings. Clearly. Credibly.

DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council) is a certification system that assesses the sustainability performance of buildings across environmental, economic, and social criteria. It looks at the whole lifecycle of a building — from design and construction to operation and long-term performance.

Climify supports DGNB-aligned operation by providing transparent data on energy use, indoor climate, and occupant feedback.

This helps document improvements over time and supports certification, recertification, and continuous compliance.
