Cable-mounted transformer for measuring and processing high voltages.
Do you want to upgrade your existing energy system and make it fit for modern and efficient energy management? Split current transformers, also known as cable-mounted transformers and clamp-on transformers, make measuring current with measuring transformers particularly easy, as they can be easily retrofitted. Installation is quick and simple – without any cumbersome cable modifications or the need to disconnect the primary circuit for installation.
With EMU-Metering, you can bring your energy technology up to date and reliably monitor all consumption data. Whether current transformers for various applications, digital energy meters, or modern energy management systems – with EMU-Metering's high-quality products, you can achieve energy efficiency in every respect.
Current transformers, in their various designs, are used when high voltages need to be measured and processed. These transformers convert the high electrical voltages for energy meters into directly measurable secondary currents – thus making them reliably and safely accessible for energy monitoring.
The advantage lies – as the name suggests – in their design. They are flexible and easy to install, making them ideal for quick assembly without the hassle of rewiring. Because the cable-mounted transformers are modular, the primary current does not need to be disconnected during installation, which significantly simplifies retrofitting.
As a general rule, when installing current transformers, it is essential to ensure that they are only installed on de-energized primary lines. This is due to the risk of electric shock posed by the high voltage. Therefore, clip-on current transformers, which are inserted through an opening over the conductor to be measured, are primarily used when installing new power systems.
However, energy systems can change over time, necessitating retrofits. Split current transformers offer the advantage that their cores can be opened and thus divided. This allows for easy and straightforward installation of the cable-mounted transformers, as the transformers can be attached to the primary conductor without interrupting it. This ease of handling makes them particularly suitable not only for retrofitting existing systems but also for use in hard-to-reach locations or where space is limited.
However, the advantages of their design and use also mean that split current transformers are less robust than clip-on current transformers. Therefore, during installation, it is essential to ensure high quality and the technical integrity of the split transformers.
